Grandma Glo

Grandma Glo passed away about a week ago and she will be so missed. Her funeral was full of stories about her happy fun demeanor and what a loving mother, friend, wife and grandmother she was! Molly and my cousin Carly both wrote some great posts about her. Molly wrote a list of her fav Glo qualities, I copied a few of mine too:

She thought every girl should always have a pair of red shoes and red lipstick
She put my name on the prayer roll every week
She made Christmas and Easter magical...really all holidays.
She put flowers in the toilet during parties
She could feel comfortable in any crowd
She often ate Cummings dark chocolates for dinner
She loved the hot dogs at Hire's
All my friends knew her and I knew all her friends
She loved to shop. I have wonderful memories going to ZCMI or Nordstrom with her and then to the Tiffin Room for lunch (When my mom cleaned out her purse she still had her Nordstrom card in it, but I would help her get things when i worked there...a lot..so much that i still have her card number memorized. :))

Every time we left her home, she stood on the porch and waved, blowing kisses until we were out of her cul de sac.

Trips to Trips

Two weeks ago I went to Miami. Two weekends ago I went to Woodstock. One week ago I went to Montauk. And one weekend ago I went to the local beach.

Miami with Self Mag, which means shooting on the beach, in a swimsuit, and beach time in between shots.. pretty fun.

And Clark came down for a quick visit!

Woodstock was for Clark's friend Bret's wedding...it was cold and I fit in by buying some Birkenstocks.

And Montauk, with Self again, was a repeat of Miami, but not quite as warm and locals with more clothes on.

We stayed at the Surf Lodge, which is everything I want in a future home.

And then Long Beach was for a Memorial Day Activity. It was ghetto.

But at least now I have my summer tan back!

Oh! But I missed this. Sooooo depressing.

With the temps up to to 60 degrees at Snowbird, we all got into character today and skiied like we were dressed. Like it was 1992 and Deer Valley was the newest, bestest thing and technique was all that mattered. A little jump to our turns, a little swing in our shoulders, and a pretty goggle line to prove our skills.

About 10 girlfriends and I went down to Jane's house in Scottsdale last weekend. It turned into somewhat of a cheer camp...team building exercises (like the cinnamon role huddle and the human knot), 10 out of control girls finding healthy food at the local grocery store, and doing pyramids and choreographed dances. (Annie... in my mind, you should of been head cheerleader.) Some things we were still good at, some things we were just a tad bit uncoordinated at. Annie made this videeeeoooo...

Something funny and sad: My ski friends started this group (the Wayne Group: Young, Motivated, and Exclusive) last season while I was still in NY. This season I obviously wanted to join. They, I think being a little bitter of my non membership last season, made me do a little initiation process.

Second half of the run: ski with no poles.
I did it.

The trip was so fun, I loved Molly's new Berkley town and Amby's house is always so fun to go to! It was so great to see all the kids together, they have so much fun and all so crazy!

Summer is over. almost. I start working next Tuesday and I am in major denial about it. I know everyone says they want this life but when most people really think about it they realize they would get bored, be unfulfilled, etc. Not me, I could do it all seasons round. We're On A Road To Nowhere...

To kickoff my "I sometimes don't work on weekdays" new freelance schedule I took a little day roadtrip with Leslie and Ryan (also part of the "day crew") to Hershey, Pennsylvania. I wouldn't say it was fun just that it was funny. We ended up lost on New Jersey interstates for most of the day, for lunch we ate at Red Robin, and the final destination was a bit of a disappointment. But I always love to drive, small towns in PA are super weird, it was really pretty, very green, and I bought the best Twizzlers chocolate licorice I've ever had and I LOVE licorice!

I normally don't do Birthday posts but I found this picture the other day and couldn't resist sending my birthday wishes publically to Coach Macy. Over Christmas the family all went ice skating, Macy, was quite the coach with the kids out on the ice. It was so funny to see her out there flipping her arms about, rounding up the kids, really "gettin em goin" (as she would say) on those skates..and with those really awesome sunglasses. Last time I moved I wrote a post about how horrible moving in New York is, which it is. But this round we had Wang Movers aka Panda Bears (they were these round little Chinese men) move us. Best decision ever. Melissa and I didn't have to do much, the nice movers just kept telling us to not worry about a thing. Here is our cute new apt! I love the neighborhood, roommates are great, and I LOVE this apartment.

Christmas in Utah

I have to say one of my favorite things about living away is going home, especially since home is Utah. I love winter in Utah. I spent a lot of my break skiing (with best ski partner z bun(shout out)), a lot of it with my family, and a lot of it with my friends. It was so fun and I hate returning to depressing January in New York.

Me with the kids before going to The Nutcracker. Tenley was in dress-ups, that is not her normal attire. Macy, Molly, and I kept telling Lucy which dances we were in when we were little, somehow Molly, the one upper, was in almost every one..weird.

Tea at Grand America with all the girls in the Pew Family. Lucy and Tenley loved it, the were so funny, twirling and being soooooo girly!

Rex and Ikey at my parents house. We spent lots of time hanging out and playing Wii. Rex was weirdly good. I just like making the people.

Christmas visit to the Livingstons. Annie and I tend to be sort of a couple, attending each other's family events, pics in front of the Christmas tree, lots of inside jokes, and lots of yelling spouts. We got in two fights that day, one because she backed her jeep into a snow mound and two because I wouldn't help her carry her skis into the house.
My birthday was on the 29th. I went to a fun dinner with my fam at Cucina Tuscano. My nicest friend Nate made me a cake that spelled my name! Annie and Bitty invited lots of people over to hang out. Bitty kills it on Rock Band.
Annie, Bitty, Nikki, Spencer and I went to Setabello's. We got Gelato for an appetizer because the wait was so long and we were so hungry. It was worth the wait but still doesn't quite compare to Patsy's.
Now it is moving time in NY...really worst time ever!!!

A Couple of Weeks Ago

Annie got to NY without throwing up. She never has got here without some sort of stomach trouble. This trip she was supposed to come the weekend prior and she had to cancel her trip because she was throwing up. The two trips before this one she threw up in the cab from the airport. But this time was successful. We had a pretty lax weekend in the snowy weather. We did a lot of Christmas shopping, a few NY Christmas sites, brunch at Blue Ribbon, and good dinners at Momofuku, Patsy's, and Shake Shack. Its always fun to have my Annie Belle in town.

A Christmas Miracle

Everyone knows that traveling during the holidays is beyond a nightmare. I, like most people in Manhattan, was feeling really stressed about it. Getting in and out of the city on a normal day is a pain, without the loads of holiday traffic, extra people, and delayed airplanes. This morning I woke up, lugged my gianormous 62 lbs suitcase down the four flights of stairs and stood on the curb in the frigid 17 degrees to hail a cab. Then I got to work and debated how I was getting to the airport. After the two times, of getting my suitcase in and out of the cab, I decided the train was not an option. Then I thought about a cab but then realized it could be nearly impossible to catch one. So I called car and hoped traffic would be ok.

5:00p,m. I walk out of my building (my flight takes off at 7:30, so an hour and half to get there and an hour for check in, security, etc). I’m doing good..

5:10pm I get a call from the car service and they were delayed 20 min. I stood there a little stressed and then miraculously saw someone getting out of a cab. NEVER happens at 5pm in Times Square, even fought off a few other Conde girls for it.

5:40pm Out of the Queens tunnel and we hit a dead stop. Traffic was backed up as far as I could see. I sat impatiently while my cabdriver complained about taking me and telling me how much money he could be making if he would have stayed in the city.

6:20pm still sitting in traffic, now really getting stressed!

6:50pm pull up at the Delta terminal; I throw my money at the driver and run in to the terminal, which is a crazy place!

6:55pm throw my suitcase on the scale to check it and the lady slowly says, “oh your flight leaves in 30 min, go down to the last person in line and they will check your bag”

7:00pm I run down to the other ticket person and there is a really long line. One of the counter people yells “anyone for Salt Lake City?” I raise my hand and yell “ME!” so loud and aggressive I totally freaked myself out. I ran up, butting in front of the cute family of 5 and the asian guy who didn’t speak a lick of English. I throw my suitcase up on the scale again and she says “oh sorry, too late, we can’t check this bag anymore” I start panicking, and then I start crying and yelling at the same time “you just said ‘anyone for Salt Lake’ it is only 7pm…I still have 30 min!!” ticket lady says “the computer won’t let me” My voice got a little shakier but more aggressive “this is a joke, I was here 10 minutes ago trying to check it, you have to check this bag!!” ticket lady says “I can’t and you have to stop yelling at me, I am just an employee, paid by the hour, I don’t own the company” (I wish the Delta president could of heard that line..). She then says “we can get you on standby for tomorrow and Wednesday but no available seats,” I am really upset at this point, thinking about all my options: is there a way to ship my bag and hop on the plane? Other airlines? LaGuardia? Newark? Of course with everything I said she nodded her head and said “nope.”

7:15pm Now I am waiting by her desk while she assists the person I butt in front of. I call my mom, crying and upset, she tries to go thru all the options with me and I act like the ticket counter lady saying there are no options except standby. Then my mom says “just go to the gate” I say that won’t work and hang up the phone. Then I thought well I might as well just try to shove my huge suitcase thru that security belt.

7:20pm run to the front of security, they look at my ticket, let me butt in line, and start helping me throw all my crap onto the belt, even my 62 lbs huge suitcase. Didn’t use any of those little plastic bins, didn’t take my computer out of the bag, threw my shoes in last minute and everything came out successfully on the other end! Security guy looks at me with a grin “they aren’t going to let you on the plane with that bag” I just smiled and shrugged.

7:25pm sprinting to my gate...JFK is not small.

7:28pm arrive at the gate and the nice ladies at the counter say “you have 4 minutes” I say “THANK YOU” they say “did you pay for your bag?” “ya but I gave my receipt to the guy at the front counter…its fine I’ll pay again (pulling out all my credit cards and tossing them to her)..I just want to get on the plane.” She says “its fine, just run” I get to the door, nice guy takes my bag, and hands it down to the bag loader uppers. I skip onto the plane as the pilot smiles “welcome” and closes the door behind me. It felt like such a movie scene, I felt like everyone on the plane should have clapped for me. But they didn’t.

7:32pm I sit down in my seat start putting my stuff under the seat in front of me and I feel like I am missing something. I realize it’s my tote bag with my computer in it! I start panicking again. I call the stewardess with the little button above me. No one comes. I start pushing it frantically. Between the late arrival and crazy flight attendant calling people were starting to stare.

7:35pm Flight attendant walks up, I say “I think I left my computer bag at the gate!” she says very calmly “I’ll call them” I watch her calling them, she continues to smile at me the whole time but can obviously see me freaking out on the inside. Everything is on my computer, the last 5 years of my life. Pictures, projects, music, journal. I would die if I lost it. She slowly walks to the front of the plane and out of sight. I am still dealing with the adrenaline and stress of getting on the plane and now I am freaking out about my computer…my life…being gone!!

7:38pm I can see the flight attendant walking towards me but can’t see anything in her hand…she gets closer and says with a lucky look on her face “they brought it down and put it through the pilots window”

I have never been so relieved in my life!!!! I call this night a Christmas Miracle!!!! So I made my flight and I made it with ALL of my luggage! Here are a few things I learned:

1. Never listen to anyone at the Delta Ticket Counter
2. Trust my mom
3. Delta people at the gate and on the plane are the nicest people in the world
4. STOP leaving things places!!!!! Remember this post??? You would have thought I learned my lesson!

I have such good friends. Last night they "surprised**" me with an early birthday get together and midnight showing of The Nightmare Before Christmas, MY FAVORITE!!! The also got tons of different kinds of cookies and Kimberly made an ice creamcake that looked like the Cookie Monster. It was fun and sooooo nice of them!

** they actually had to tell me about it to get me there because I was being so stubborn with my plans.

I Love the 90's

Lately I wish I lived in the 90's. If you have read Melissa's blog or talked to Liz or Becky lately you may understand. We have all been obsessed with 90's teen TV series. Melissa and I have been watching My So Called Life and Liz, Becky and I have been watching Felicity (of course not all together due to crazy schedules, but at the same pace so we can discuss). I love the clothes.. flannel plaid shirts and dresses, heavy rugged boots, and large khaki green coats. I still listen to and love The Cranberries and REM. I never thought I would envy the 90's but I totally do.

Watching these shows are so funny, the social awkwardness of Angela and Felicity are so painful to watch but I LOVE it. They are dramatic, idealistic, and completely irrational, at least when it comes to love. My favorite is how they always say "like" and they end every sentence in "or something"..showing so much insecurity and nervousness. I just kinda can't get over their characters. Its kinda too bad Generation Y's Lauren Conrad and Blair Waldorf just don't compare. Maybe in ten years they will...
Watching this I totally think of my older sister, Amby, marching up and down the stairs in her brown high Dr Marten's boots and green plaid button up, mad at my parents for not lettting her go to The Bay. Then blasting Depeche Mode from her new cd stereo, which the cd went into like it was a cassette. I never thought that would be an era I wished I was a teenager for..but I totally do!

Since the first week I moved here I have wanted to move downtown. Better restaurants, better shopping, better people, etc. etc. Every weekend night I am down there and end up spending a good chuck of change on taxis to get to and from (subways on the weekends are no good). The one thing that has held me back is the park. Running in the morning and Sunday afternoons there are my favorite. Now that I am moving downtown (not for sure..but pretty for sure) I am going to be pretty sad to not be so close. On Sunday I was there with Kimberly and Ryan and the leaves were so pretty and I happen to have my camera!

This was actually my first time at this spot. Its funny how you can be in a place so much and never discover the whole thing.

Halloween x3

I didn't really plan to dress up or do anything for Halloween. Turns out 3 things came up and all 3 times I jumped...

1. Waldo. Went out with some work friends and Waldo was easy to put together in the closet. (Kofi was Erkel and Jenny was pregnant MIA)

2. Rachel Zoe Camp: some work friends and I decided to dress up like team Zoe. We even made a video. We totally shut it down.

3. Flapper Girl. Melissa bought this costume for Davis and when it didn't quite work for him I decided to give it a try. Last minute plans dragged me to the stake party.

Spooky Hollow and Tarry Treats

In honor of Halloween Kimberly, Ryan and I decided to go check out Sleepy Hollow and Tarry town last weekend. It's only a 30 min train ride north of the city so we just kinda hoped on the train with out a plan. The colors of the leaves and the area in general were beautiful! We walked through the Graveyard of where the writer of Sleepy Hollow was buried. We went to Union Cathedral where the Rockefeller's commissioned Chagall and Matisse to do stain glass..they were really cool. The whole town was decked in Halloween decorations, it was really fun and made me really excited to dress up and celebrate HALLOWEEN!

Weekend

This past weekend Amby, Molly, and my Mom came out for a short visit! I feel like every time one of my family members comes to visit, especially my mom, they say "we aren't going to go overboard with the food and we don't really want to shop the whole time." I usually agree, with "I work with clothes surrounding me all day..the last thing I want to do is shop." But we always end up spending the entire time shopping and eating, I think it is just innate in us, we can't get away from it and we always enjoy it. So this time, like any other, we spent the weekend shopping and eating. And we did spend a few hours at the MOMA, which had a great Pre-Fab Home exhibit. We had brunch at Blue Ribbon Bakery, amazing bread, on Saturday and couldn't miss Norma's for Sunday brunch. We shopped in the West Village and Soho on Saturday. Had dinner at Momofuku, one my new fav's, and did the usual candy run to Dylan's. Sunday we walked through the park and shopped on the Upper West Side. We also went to an off broadway called Ballerina meets B-boy. May or may not be one of the worst shows I have ever seen. It was an Asian poorly performed dance performance that should have been on about 10 years ago. I think I should take that back..I don't know how it is playing at all. It was pretty funny. We all just kinda laughed. We had such a fun time, I am so glad they came!

Last night Melissa and I headed up to Harlem to see Jenny Lewis. I'm loving Acid Tongue so I was really excited. Unfortunately when we got there she had already started playing..it was only 9pm! So the guy at the door said she only had been playing for about 10 min. We went, as he directed us, up to the balcony to find our seats and the usher said "no you are downstairs." Then we ran downstairs and the usher said "no you are on the lower balcony" we ran up one flight and the usher said "no you are on the upper balcony." Finally we found our seats, the first three ushers were obviously confused and caused us to be short 4 songs...we are guessing. But it was such a great show, of course, she always puts on a great show. love love.

WT Cut offs

I went to the park with Melissa and Davis on Sunday via two longboards and a bike. Davis took a rolling tumble off the longboard and Melissa and I almost died (I can't longboard, we tried to avoid the pothole, a cab was coming straight for us, and Melissa's bike seat is broken)..it was pretty scary. The best part about it was Melissa and I's shorts.. just love being WT sometimes...

Montauk

A group, that went from 6 to about 30 in one week, headed out to Montauk for Labor Day weekend. Kimberly, Lisa, Helen, and I drove half the way out and stopped off through the Hamptons and Farmer's Markets, ate at the famous Clam Bar, and even picked up on some quality guys..

they were actually quite sucky but had I fancy house in Bridge Hampton

We met up with our group in Montauk and we all stayed at a really fance hotel, but what I really mean is a kinda ghetto motel, the Sun N Sound. We all went to the beach for a bonfire, spent all day at the beach, and had a great BBQ at sunset.

We tried to jump at the same time but it just didn't work out so well...after round 15..we gave up...

And a day at the beach..I really just need to move somewhere to be a beach bum I think it is what I do best at in life..

Not that this shows it, but the waves were so huge! I don't think I have ever been in such rough ocean waters! It was really funny but the sand burns on my legs aren't so fun..

A Saturday on a Brooklyn Rooftop

Last Saturday I did a freelance job with Elle, a darling stylist who I have worked with a bit before. Jenny, an editor at Lucky came with me to help out. This was just a shoot for the photographer's and Elle's portfolios so we had a pretty laid back day and fun, as always. Jenny and I like to make things a little more glamorous by putting on all the clothes while working on the shoot and of course take pics. It was sooooo hot and actually a bit breezy. A hefty wind came up and pulled the light screen up from the poles and poor little Jenny got taken with it. Luckily, the photo assistants caught it before it went over the roof with Jenny. I sure would have missed Jenny (pictured in the hat and with the feathers) if we would have lost her!
